How I collect, use and look after information about you and your child. Plain English, no small print.
In short: I only collect what I need to teach your child, I never sell it or use it for marketing, and you can ask me to see or delete it at any time.
Who I am
Maths with Khalid is run by Khalid, a self-employed maths tutor based in Whetstone, London N20. I decide how your information is used, which makes me the “data controller” under UK data protection law.
If you have any question about your information, WhatsApp or call 07938 156189, or email info@mathswithkhalid.com.
What I collect
I only collect what I need to arrange and teach lessons:
- About you (the parent or guardian): your name, phone number, email address if you give it, and the messages you send me.
- About your child: their first name, year group, what they need help with, notes on their progress, and work they share in lessons.
- For in-person lessons: the address where lessons take place.
- Payments: amounts, dates and bank transfer references. I never see or store card details.
How I get it
From you, when you message me on WhatsApp, call or email, and from your child during lessons.
Why I use it
UK data protection law asks me to give a reason, called a “lawful basis”, for each use:
- To arrange and teach lessons, including progress updates: this is needed to provide the tuition you’ve asked for (contract).
- To send invoices and keep financial records: the law requires me to keep these (legal obligation).
- To keep children safe: if I ever have a safeguarding concern, I may need to share information with the right people (legal obligation and legitimate interests).
- To answer an enquiry that doesn’t lead to lessons: so I can reply and help (legitimate interests).
I don’t use your information for marketing, and I never sell it.
Children’s information
I arrange lessons with a parent or guardian, not directly with the child. I keep notes about a child to a minimum: just enough to plan lessons and show progress.
Online lessons
Online lessons run on a video-call service. I don’t record lessons. Work done on the shared whiteboard may be kept so I can track progress and plan the next lesson.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don’t lead to lessons: deleted within 12 months.
- Students: kept while lessons continue, and for up to 12 months after they stop, in case you return.
- Financial records: kept for six years, as HMRC requires.
This website
This website doesn’t use cookies or advertising trackers.
It’s hosted by Cloudflare, which handles technical details such as your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits and page views without cookies and without identifying you, so I can see which pages parents find useful. Fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which can see your IP address. WhatsApp buttons take you to WhatsApp, which has its own privacy policy.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- see the information I hold about you or your child
- correct anything that’s wrong
- delete it, where I don’t need to keep it by law
- stop or limit how I use it
- give you a copy to take elsewhere
To ask, WhatsApp or call 07938 156189, or email info@mathswithkhalid.com. I’ll reply within one month. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Keeping it safe
Information is kept on password-protected devices and accounts, and only I have access to it.
